Two notes from the 3 November 2026 re-check: some reports claim the US rate rose to 8% on 4 August 2026, but TikTok’s public table — updated 8 October 2026 — still lists 6% and no official notice was found; and the FBT fee is now $4.28 for a single item up to 4 oz (13 July 2026 rate card, corroborated by five independent guides — the official card needs a Seller Center login, so it stays labelled an estimate). No withdrawal or small-order fee was found in TikTok’s official US or UK pages.
Worked Example: $20.97 Profit on a $50 Beauty Product (US)
Here is the exact maths for a US beauty product sold through a creator with Fulfilled by TikTok — the calculator’s defaults.
Inputs: price $50.00; product cost $12.00; shipping $0.00; creator commission 15%; ad spend $2.00 per order; refund rate 2%; referral fee 6%; refund administration fee 20% of referral, capped at $5.00; FBT fee $4.28 (estimate).
1Step 1 — Money in: $50.00 + $0.00 = $50.00.
2Step 2 — Referral fee: 6% × $50.00 = $3.00.
3Step 3 — Creator commission: 15% × $50.00 = $7.50.

5Step 5 — Expected refund cost: refund administration fee: 20% × $3.00 = $0.60 (under the $5.00 cap). Each refund loses $0.60 + $12.00 = $12.60, so at 2% the expected cost is 2% × $12.60 = $0.25.

1Step 1 — Pick your market and category. Choose US or UK, then your category. The referral fee fills in automatically — 6% most US categories, 5% jewelry and pre-owned, 9% most UK categories, 5% UK Electronics and selected Beauty. Edit it if your Seller Center rate differs.
2Step 2 — Enter your real costs. Add your price, product cost, shipping, creator commission, ad spend per order and refund rate. Choose FBT or self-fulfil, and check the FBT estimate against your rate card. Switch on the new-seller or Smart Promotion options if they apply.
3Step 3 — Read the result, then test the price. The receipt shows every fee, net profit, margin, ROI, break-even price and break-even ROAS. Try a lower price or higher commission and watch the break-even price move.

?What is the TikTok Shop referral fee?
In the US it is 6% for most categories, on what the buyer pays, including buyer-paid shipping. Five jewelry sub-categories and Pre-Owned pay 5%; over $10,000, Collectibles and Pre-Owned pay 3% on the excess. In the UK the standard fee is 9%, inclusive of VAT, with a reduced 5% for specified Electronics and selected Beauty and Personal Care. Reports of an 8% US rate since August 2026 are unconfirmed — TikTok’s table still shows 6% (re-checked 3 November 2026; TikTok’s page was updated 8 October 2026 and still lists 6%).

In the US, TikTok Shop charges a 6% referral fee on most categories — 6% of what the buyer pays, including buyer-paid shipping but not sales tax. On a $25 item with no shipping, that is $1.50. In the UK the charge is 9%, inclusive of VAT. Creator commission, fulfilment and ads are extra, and you set those rates yourself.
?Does TikTok Shop charge a fee?
Yes, but only when you sell. There is no monthly subscription, listing fee or sign-up fee — opening a shop and listing products is free. The only mandatory platform charge is the referral fee: 6% in the US and 9% in the UK. TikTok states the referral fee covers payment processing too, so there is no separate card fee.

You set it yourself. TikTok allows 1%–80% and publishes no default, so there is no “correct” commission — only the highest rate you can afford while keeping your target margin. TikTok’s UK playbook puts the average at 10%–15%. Test a commission in the calculator before you offer it.

?What happens to the fees when a customer returns an item?
In the US, TikTok returns the referral fee but keeps 20% of it, capped at $5 per SKU — $0.60 on a $3.00 referral fee. The bigger cost is usually the product: a refunded order normally loses the product cost and, for self-fulfil, the outbound shipping. The calculator spreads that expected loss across every order using your refund rate. No refund administration fee was found on TikTok’s public UK pages.
?Is there a lower referral fee for new sellers?
TikTok confirms new sellers can get a promotional rate, but the rate, duration and eligibility are not published on its public US or UK pages. Guides disagree — 3% for 30 days, 2% for 90 days in the US, 4% for 60 days in the UK — and none is official. Tick the new-seller box and enter the rate shown in your own Seller Center.

Three differences. Headline rate: 9% in the UK against 6% in the US, and the UK rate is inclusive of VAT. TikTok charges a standard commission fee of 9%, inclusive of VAT, on the total order value. Specified Electronics and selected Beauty & Personal Care categories pay a reduced effective rate of 5%. There is no separate payment processing fee listed on TikTok’s UK pages, and no refund administration fee was found on TikTok’s public UK help pages — check your UK statements for the exact rules that apply to you.
?Does TikTok take 50%?
No. TikTok’s own referral fee is 6% in the US and 9% in the UK. Your total cost is higher once you add creator commission, fulfilment and ads — in the worked example above, all fees and costs come to $29.03 on a $50 sale — but commission and ad spend are rates you set yourself, not a cut TikTok takes.
